Privacy Policy

Last updated September 24, 2026. Effective September 25, 2026.

This policy explains what information The Rich Rules ("we", "us") collects when you visit or use this website, take a quiz, join our email list or message us, how we use it, when we sell or share it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who interacts with the site, whether or not you subscribe.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you join our email list or write to us, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include, such as your name.

Quiz and form answers. If you take a quiz or fill in a form on the site, we collect your answers. Depending on the quiz, these may include your age range, U.S. state, family situation (for example, whether you are a parent or grandparent), your goals and concerns, and whether you have documents such as a will, trust or beneficiary forms in place. We use your answers to personalize your results and the guides and offers we show you.

How you found us. We record which of our hosts, posts, videos or links brought you to the site or the list (for example, a link in a Facebook comment), the placement where you signed up, and the date.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and analytics tools record standard technical information such as your browser type, device, approximate location (city or region), the pages and guides you read, how far you read, what you click, and the site that referred you. We use Google Analytics, which uses cookies; you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Product analytics. We use PostHog to see how people use the site. PostHog may record anonymised sessions of how a page is used, with anything typed into forms hidden. If you join our list, we link your email address to your activity on this site.

Email activity. Our email provider (beehiiv) tells us whether our emails are delivered, opened and clicked.

Inferences. From the guides you read and the emails you open, we may infer the topics you are interested in (for example, estate planning, etiquette or investing).

How we use information

  • To send the letter, the Starter Rules, your quiz results and anything else you asked for, and to reply to you.
  • To personalize the guides, recommendations and offers you see.
  • To understand which guides, hosts, posts and links are useful, and to improve the site and the letter.
  • To show advertising on the site and in the letter, and to measure it.
  • To sell or share information with third parties as described below.
  • To keep the site secure and to comply with the law.

Sale and sharing of personal information

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws, "sell" means making personal information available to another business for money or other value, and "share" means disclosing it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Under those definitions, The Rich Rules sells and shares personal information.

This applies to visitors, quiz takers and subscribers alike, including visitors who never give us an email address (for example, information about your visit collected through cookies and similar technologies).

What we may sell or share: identifiers and contact information (email address and name, if given); cookie, device and online identifiers; quiz and form answers, including age range, U.S. state, family situation, goals and concerns, and self-reported financial and estate-planning information; how you found us (host, post and link); internet activity on this site (pages and guides read, clicks, approximate location); email engagement (opens and clicks); and inferences about your interests and characteristics.

Who may receive it: advertising and marketing partners, sponsors, affiliate and lead-generation partners, other newsletters and publishers, data and list partners, and analytics and measurement companies. Some receive it to provide a service to us; others receive it for their own marketing and commercial purposes, under their own privacy policies.

Information collected before September 25, 2026. Before September 25, 2026, this policy said we do not sell personal information. We will not sell or share any personal information we collected before that date, including the email addresses of people who subscribed before it, unless you give us separate, express consent.

What we never sell: the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16, and the information of anyone who has opted out.

Your choice: do not sell or share

You can opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information at any time, and you do not need an account:

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sale and sharing for that browser, and for the email address you sign up with from that browser.

If you opt out without giving an email address, we record the opt-out for the browser you used; opt out again on other browsers or devices, or give us your email so we can apply it to everything linked to it. Opting out does not unsubscribe you from the letter, and we will not treat you differently for opting out. To stop the emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.

Notice of financial incentive

We offer free benefits in exchange for your information: the Starter Rules, a free printable guide to six habits wealthy families teach at home, when you join our email list, and personalized results when you complete a quiz. Because we may sell or share this information, California law treats these as financial incentives. You opt in by joining or by submitting a quiz; you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or by opting out of sale and sharing as described above, and you keep what you received either way. We estimate the value of the personal information involved is reasonably related to the value of the Starter Rules, the letter and personalized results, based on the advertising, sponsorship, partnership and data revenue we earn per user.

Cookies and advertising

This site is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense and may work with other advertising partners.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.
  • Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Where the law requires it, including for visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, we use a Google-certified consent management platform to ask for your consent before personalized ads are shown. Where consent is not given, ads may still appear but are not personalized.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Montana, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use, sell and share, and get a copy of it;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • delete your information;
  • opt out of the sale and sharing of your information and of targeted advertising;
  • appeal if we decline your request; and
  • not be discriminated against for using these rights.

To make a request, email studio@therichrules.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request". We will verify the request using your email address and respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent. Information that was sold or shared before you opted out or asked us to delete it may remain with the recipient under their own policies.

Retention

We keep your information while you are subscribed or while it is needed for the purposes above, and then delete or de-identify it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect, sell or share information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a material change to how we use information we already hold, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
